Honors English IV
Honors English IV is designed to provide students with an overview of British Literature including various genres such as epic, lyric, and satiric poetry, drama and the novel. Emphasis is placed on the analytical approach to literature as it relates to the refinement of language, composition, and critical thinking skills.
In order to receive credit for this course, the student must be able to perform the stated activities of College Prep English IV, plus the following, at a minimal level of proficiency:
- Demonstrate the ability to do close readings of selected texts in order to explicate a text’s structure, style, theme, tone, figurative language, imagery and symbolism.
- Demonstrate the ability to write close textual analyses of works of poetry and prose.
- Demonstrate the ability to work independently to read and respond to literary works by completing a series of long term assignments
.- Demonstrate stylistic maturity in his/herindividual writing.
- Demonstrate the ability to create and deliver oral presentation for a variety of audiences.
