HSPA Math 9


This course is required for the student who is non-proficient on the Grade 8 Proficiency Assessment and/or below a C average in 8th grade math. The course reinforces basic concepts and fundamental mathematical operations, and the problem solving skills necessary for success on the HSPA. The course goal is to provide those skills needed to continue to AG-1 and proficiency on the HSPA 11.

Minimal proficiencies which must be mastered for the student to receive 5 credits for this course are:

  1. Solving addition, subtraction, multiplication and division equations with whole numbers and decimals.
  2. Ability to use number properties to simplify expressions and solve equations.
  3. Solving problems involving fractions and fractions with variables.
  4. Solving problems involving addition, subtraction, multiplication and division of fractions with each skill
  5. extended to algebraic fractions.
  6. Solving problems involving addition, subtraction, multiplication and division of integers and equations.
  7. Solving problems involving addition, subtraction, multiplication and division of rational numbers and equations.
  8. Solving problems involving ratio, proportion and percentages.
  9. Solving problems involving perimeter, area, surface areas and volume.
  10. Solve problems involving simple probability and statistics.
  11. Solve multi-tasked word problems and open-ended questions mirroring the HSPA 11.
