Advanced Placement Biology
....7.5 credits
Prerequisites: Biology, Chemistry, Physics
The Advanced Placement Biology course is designed to be the equivalent of a college introductory biology course. AP Biology differs significantly from Honors or CP Biology with respect to the textbook used (College Text), the range and depth of topics covered, the kind of laboratory work done and the time and effort required of students.
The aim of this course is to provide students with the conceptual framework, factual knowledge and analytical skills necessary to successfully pass the Advanced Placement examination and to deal critically with the rapidly changing science of biology.
- An experimental research project according to the teacher's specification is due in early February.
- Laboratories have also been developed by the AP Biology Committee which are considered a basic portion of the course and are to serve as a springboard into further experiments.
- A Summer reading and writing assignment is required.
