Helping Hands Club
The purpose of the Helping Hands Club is for students to provide a service to the high school by volunteering study hall time to work in the media center. Members assist in keeping the media center organized and running efficiently while acquiring specialized skills and knowledge related to various media center procedures. The duties of club members are listed below:
Work at the circulation desk checking books in and out
Shelve books according to the Dewey Decimal System
Promote reading to other students by writing brief book reviews
Update and file magazines
Help students locate materials
Create themed book displays
Assist with special projects such as rearranging bookshelves
Create posters and signs
Participate in special events (Read Across America)
Maintain OPACs
Assist with tasks in the Research Lab (refilling printers with paper)
All club members are expected to report to the media center on time and should record their time worked in the Helping Hands Sign In Book. If a member has homework or a school project to complete, he/she should work on that first and skip working in the media center if necessary. Members are also expected follow general school rules and to be courteous and helpful to other students at all times. Unsatisfactory behavior will result in disqualification of membership.
At the end of the school year a certificate will be given to each student listing the number of hours worked in the media center.
