AFTER SCHOOL DETENTION – After school detention is assigned by the Administration on Tuesdays and Thursdays only. 30-minute detentions are held for minor lateness and 90-minute detentions are held for students who arrive unexcused at school after 8:10 a.m., and for other disciplinary reasons. Teachers may also schedule their own individual detentions for disciplinary reasons.

STUDENTS SCHEDULED FOR AFTER SCHOOL OR SATURDAY DETENTION MAY NOT PARTICIPATE IN OR ATTEND ANY SCHOOL EVENTS ON THE DAY THE DETENTION IS SCHEDULED UNTIL THE DETENTION HAS BEEN SERVED.

SATURDAY DETENTION/EXTERNAL SUSPENSION: Any pupil guilty of infractions as set forth in the discipline policy is subject to Saturday detention/external suspensions or other penalties as determined by the Administration. All Saturday detentions/external suspensions must be for a limited time, with specific dates and times to be included. If a student fails to serve a Saturday detention (discipline or attendance make-up), the student will be placed on activity restriction until he/she serves the Saturday detention. This may include denial of participation in graduation or commencement ceremonies, even though permitted to receive a diploma.

Any pupil who receives a Saturday detention/external suspension must be notified in writing as to the reasons for the Saturday detention/external suspension and given the opportunity to be present at their explanations. These students will also have the right to the grievance procedures as outlined in Board policy. Any pupil receiving a Saturday detention/external suspension must have a conference with the Administration. Following an external suspension, a conference with the student, parent, and administrator will be required for pupil readmittance to school.

All external suspensions will be reported to the Board of Education through the Superintendent's office at the Board meeting immediately following the date of action. It is the prerogative of the building principal to determine at what point a discipline matter is referred to the superintendent for final adjudication. Consideration is given to the number of Saturday detentions and of external suspensions and the nature of the offenses.

ACTIVITY RESTRICTION: Any external suspension automatically includes activity restriction for the duration of the suspension. Students who are placed on ACTIVITY RESTRICTION may not participate in or attend any school-sponsored functions. Students who receive an external suspension will be placed on ACTIVITY RESTRICTION for five school days beginning the day they return to school from suspension. A second suspension carries a 10 school day activity restriction consequence. Any student who receives a third suspension will be placed on 20 school days of activity restriction upon their return to school. Students, who fail to attend a Saturday Detention or are placed on No-Credit status, will be placed on Activity Restriction until they serve their Saturday Detention or they no longer considered on No-Credit. The Administration reserves the right to impose and/or extend activity restriction based on individual circumstances. Students who violate activity restriction may have their activity restriction assignment extended

PROTECTION AGAINST THEFT: Theft has become one of the most serious problems in American schools. It is expected that two out of every nine high school students throughout the country will have something of major value stolen this year. DON'T LET THIS HAPPEN TO YOU.

School authorities cannot be held financially responsible for anything stolen from your hall or gym locker, whether it is locked or unlocked. We are doing everything we know to stop thievery. However, YOU are the important key. The following guidelines can help lesson your chances of becoming a victim.
